Jointly with the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) we convened a 90-minute webinar to share and discuss some of the positive and practical steps that have been taken by the pharmaceutical industry aimed at avoiding or reducing ‘severe’ suffering in animals used in research and testing.
Summary
The event included three case study examples:
- a new group housing approach for animals in metabolism studies
- refining and reducing animal use in challenge potency tests
- refining animal use in Maximum Tolerated Dose studies
- and a panel discussion of some of the wider challenges involved and how these are being overcome.
